Cast When Damage Taken Curse
- With 'Path of Exile: Cast When Damage Taken', you have the ability to trigger support spells as you reach a certain threshold of damage. You need to reach level 38 in the game to be able to use this feature. It will step up your gameplay, as you incorporate additional skills & high-end spells.
- But da base mechanics combined whit da cast when damage taken are kinda retarded, lvl10 cast when damage taken gets triggered after 1220damage is taken allows molten shell 855detonation treshold 580armor so assume you get nice incoming damage of like 200 life lost every 0.2seconds, cast when damage taken gets triggered the upcoming 0.25second, any damage will not trigger cast when damage taken, that's 200 damage in this case.
- Path of Exile LvL 20 Quality 20% - Cast when Damage Taken x% less Damage You cannot Cast Supported Spells directly 100% chance to Cast Supported Spells when you take a total of x Damage Each percentage of quality adds 0.5% increased.
well for me (BM user) its a nice way to compensate my 0 auras. moltenshell clicking all the time every 10 seconds was really annoying and the rejuv totem too. cant cast all the stuff normally all the time if there should be some mana stuff with it its at least a lil bonus for all the no-more-aura-bm dudes. with this and the patch stuff my dude is extremly more tanky like it and my shocknova shocks the hell around me | Posted by krassi3000 on Oct 26, 2013, 5:39:13 PM |
' Yeah. I can't think of any build that would not be made better by adding Cast on Damage Taken. Any 'optimal' build must include it: PvE and PvP. That seems a bit off. I also love the gem though! | Posted by aimlessgun on Oct 26, 2013, 6:15:35 PM |
Would it be fine if the less damage % also applied to general skill effects? | Posted by QcRevo on Oct 26, 2013, 6:35:43 PM |
I love this gem! I run it with Windscream boots enabling me to auto-cast two curses Enfeeble+Temporal chains all the time. Don't need to waste time casting them myself. This helps a lot my Cyclone life leech tanky build. Normally I was dying a bit because of desync (using Cyclone means having A LOT of desync) but now, with auto-cast curses, I feel much safer. Don't you dare nerf this gem! IGN: ZENofWar [lvl 88 Blood magic cyclone Marauder] ZENofArts [lvl 80 Cast on crit Quill Rain Scion] | Posted by zamraii on Oct 26, 2013, 6:35:50 PM |
It's too powerful, from what I've seen on Youtube. Trivializes a lot of the game's content. | Posted by brgillespie on Oct 26, 2013, 8:43:54 PM |
Won't be able to try it out until tomorrow, looking forward to it. :) It looks like a lot of fun, but expect a nerf of some kind in the close future. IMO the most logical nerf would be to have the casted skills use mana, with a sensible multiplier, maybe around 200% at most. This way mana heavy builds are rewarded with the option to use this support in many fun ways, and low mana melee characters can't make themselves into non-killable tanks too easily. :) (actually a high regen BM build might :P) | Posted by on Oct 26, 2013, 11:57:01 PM |
Did u see streams? Its f@cking broken totally. Noone should be able to farm 70maps solo faster than any party not loosing even 10% of hp in process. | Posted by NaxrenApm on Oct 27, 2013, 12:17:14 AM |
This gem is absurd. Way too strong. They need to limit the spells that can be cast at once or give it a cooldown or something like that. | Posted by on Oct 27, 2013, 12:26:52 AM |
State of this gem: everyone always has max endurance charges (might as well remove them from game and give everyone huge survival buff), other skills make enemies go crazy without you doing anything (decoys, skeletal totems). My idea to fix it would be making you cast spells as buffs with reserved auras. It would be with some mana cost multiplier but still flat damage, possible to decrease with new passives and support gem. With this blood magic users that don't run any auras would actually be able to use quite a lot of skills casted on damage taken. Others will maybe think a little but what skills and on what levels they want to use. Right now you can max out every skill and you don't pay its mana cost anyway. This was obviously buhroken before it was even implemented and will have to be rendered Crap Tier before it's 'balanced', but I'll repeat my sentiments here: * It's pretty much like an even superior version of aura stacking at the end of the day. * I love how this makes Molten Shell actually usable for the armour bonus. But uh, you could've made a skill like Tempest Shield or Arctic Armour called Crag Armour or something that would've done the same thing. * I hate how this makes Tempest Shield horribly redundant and awful. I used to (naively) dream about Tempest Shield ripping monsters to shreds with my gosu max block stat. But now there's this thing, that works against both attackers and wizards? So basically Tempest Shield got boned the worst in this patch, as far as I can tell so far. Additionally: This demonstrates how Spells utterly dominate the game when it comes to variety and the blue zone dominates the ability pie. Why are traps spells? Witches don't need them - their version of Fire Trap should be a meteor or lava burst or something. The green zone could use traps desperately. The duelist could certainly do with more of an identity besides 'that guy who dual wields. And has life regen.' On the same measure, Enduring Cry should be a 'shout' or something and not a spell. I know when something fantastical happens and you'd want to justify it with 'magic did it' to try to make it seem realistic, but at the end of the day it's just a bunch of silly stuff we can do. That could use some mechanical segregation. Last edited by LimitedRooster on Oct 27, 2013, 6:49:06 AM | Posted by LimitedRooster on Oct 27, 2013, 5:50:50 AM |

Cast When Damage Taken Build
I've posted this on Reddit but I think it might be useful to post it here as well. I always find it time-consuming to switch back and forth between pages on the Path of Exile Wiki to find out which level is the optimal one for all the gems I link in my various CWDT setups while planning out my builds. Today I've made a quick chart so I can plan my setups faster. Maybe this exists somewhere else already. I can add gems on it if asked to, just post the list in the comments. I've only included the few ones I usually link in my own setups, and a couple others which have been asked for. 'Cast When Damage Taken' Setup Planning Chart What is a 'Cast When Damage Taken' Setup ? If you are a new player, know that this is one of the most important types of mechanics you need to get acquainted with in Path of Exile. The support gem 'Cast When Damage Taken' (CWDT) is used to automatically cast one or more spells linked to it when you are dealt a certain amount of damage (of whatever type). The full description of the gem can be found here : For example, if you level the gem up to Level 5, it will trigger every time you take an amount of 812 damage, and when triggering it will cast (always in the same order, as indicated on the Wiki page I've just linked) the spells (not attacks or warcries or other types of skill gems) that you have linked to it. Usually, a build will include 1 or 2 CWDT setups which will serve as utility setups for defensive purposes. For example, on this character you can see I have two different setups :
This chart is simply a tool to figure out quickly up to which level you can bring each spell gem you want to have triggered by a certain CWDT level gem, without going over the level limit of the CWDT gem. For example, a Level 1 CWDT gem can only support spell gems requiring a level or 38 or lower. So you need to make sure that whatever is the level of the spells you link to it, the required level to use the gems is 38 or lower. For example, if your CWDT gem is at Level 15, and you want to link Molten Shell to it, you cannot bring your Molten Shell gem higher than Level 18, otherwise it won't trigger. The support gems you would use, for example, to increase the duration of Molten Shell, can be leveled up all the way to Level 20+, since they support a spell triggered by CWDT, they are not triggered by it themselves. If there are any typos and/or mistakes, or if you want to see a gem added on the list, just mention it in the comments. Cheers!
